I have already dug a patch about 10ft by 10ft and I’ve got a small patch of sweet-corn. I’ve got some beans, which I don’t expect to do very well – not sure why as they were fine specimens when I planted them. I’ve also got sprouts, leeks, parsnips and broccoli. I was hoping to trade my remaining pot of parsnips but my intended victim couldn’t be bought by my fine young seedlings. That’s why I’m working on the site today (3rd Jul) as I have to dig the patch to put the rest of my remaining seedlings in. I experimented a couple of weeks ago and I wished I hadn’t. I planted a few very nice specimen sprouts and broccoli and in 2 days the pigeons had stripped them. There’s now a net over my new seedlings. The reason I experimented and didn’t cover them originally was because my neighbour told me that I only needed to net up to the end of June as the old wives tale says the pigeons don’t touch it after June. It’s not true…
